Reptile Buddy, the ultimate app for reptile enthusiasts, is back! We’ve had a lot of questions about the state of the app over the last months, but we want to assure you, we’re here to stay.
After a long absence in the Google Play store, due to unforeseen personal circumstances and technical challenges, we’re thrilled to announce the release of our latest version.
Passion project
Reptile Buddy began as a passion project—an endeavor fueled by our love for animals and their care, combined with our fascination for the digital realm. As a husband-and-wife team, we embarked on this journey over 8 years ago. Our small size grants us flexibility, but it also exposes us to life’s unexpected twists and turns. The last two years have been a roller coaster of highs and lows, both personally and professionally.
New mobile version
Over a year ago, Reptile Buddy was temporarily removed from the Google Play store due to non-compliance with new terms and conditions. To address this, we undertook a complete app overhaul, rebuilding it from scratch. After rigorous testing and fine-tuning, we’re thrilled to announce the release of our latest version.
Our plans
Our roadmap includes multiple updates for both Android and iOS versions, aligning them with the functionality already available in the web-based version. After that, we’re eager to implement feature requests from our dedicated user community.
Going Pro
In order to make sure we can continue to put the effort into the system that you deserve, the last period has also made it clear to us we will need to have the resources to do so. Until now we’ve covered the costs of running Reptile Buddy personally, apart from some very generous donations from some awesome users. In order to create a more solid infrastructure, we are going to introduce the subscriptions we’ve had posted on the website for a few years now. Our goal is to keep the current version of the app forever free but expand the functionality to appeal more to semi-pro and business users on a subscription plan.
To sustain the level of commitment you deserve, we’ve realized the need for additional resources. While we’ve personally covered Reptile Buddy’s costs so far (along with some incredibly generous users), we’re introducing subscriptions based on the model we’ve had posted on the website for a few years now. Our aim is to keep the core app free while enhancing features for semi-pro and business users through subscription plans.
The web version
Did you know that Reptile Buddy isn’t limited to app stores? You can access it directly from any browser without installation. The web app mirrors the mobile functionality and even offers some features better suited for larger screens. Starting with this release, we’ll include web app changes in all our release notes.
